WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Treatment Center located off Shipyard Boulevard is hoping to build an expansion according to new plans submitted to the City of Wilmington’s Technical Review Committee.

Currently, Wilmington Treatment Center is located on the northern side of Shipyard Boulevard, off Troy Drive. The new plans, some of which are labeled as New Patient Dorm C, consist of a little more than 9-acres and would be located behind several homes as well as some commercial properties.

Wilmington Treatment Center is an inpatient medical facility for adults struggling with chemical dependency and substance abuse.

It appears there will be several different buildings constructed onsite including a 45-foot, 3-story tall dormitory.

According to New Hanover County GIS data, Wilmington Treatment Center is the owner of the parcels and purchased the two lots in 2018.

The properties are currently zoned RB or Regional Business — a district that allows a large number of uses, including hospitals, by-right. It is not clear if the development will require any sort of special use permit or if it is permitted by-right.

The item is expected to go before the Technical Review Committee on Oct. 24.
