WILMINGTON — It’s not uncommon to see complaints on social media that local government meetings are hard to attend, especially when they’re held during the workday. But, at least for one upcoming meeting, it will be a little easier to see what the New Hanover County School’s Title IX Committee is up to.

The school district announced that the committee’s next meeting, set for this coming Monday, will be live-streamed on the district’s Facebook page.

The Title XI committee was formed earlier this year in response to concerns and complaints about how the district had handled potential Title IX violations in the past, as well as to address the lack of policy, training, and education related to Title IX. Last month, the committee announced it would replace Superintendent Dr. Rick Holliday — who has since announced his resignation amid investigations by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau Investigation  — as Title IX coordinator, using $100,000 in recurring funding from New Hanover County.

You can find the meeting agenda here. Highlights include:

  • Representatives from the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault are scheduled to attend the meeting.
  • A review of proposed Title IX-related policies.
  • A review of the proposed job description for a new Title IX director.

The meeting will be held on Monday, July 15, at 3:30 p.m. at the New Hanover County Board of Education Center at 1805 South 13th St., and will be broadcast live on Facebook.
