BURGAW — Detectives with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office arrested an undocumented alien from Honduras for sex crimes including statutory rape of a child.
Edis Donaldo Maldonado-Ortez, 40, was arrested as a result of an investigation concerning allegations brought against him by a 13-year-old female, according to PCSO Captain James Rowell.
Captain Rowell said Maldonado had been living and working in the Pender, New Hanover, and Brunswick County areas. He was charged with one felony county of statutory rape of a child less than 15-years old, one felony county of indecent liberties with a child, and one misdemeanor count of sexual battery.
Maldonado also has an active and outstanding administrative warrant for an immigration violation issued in 2017 by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to Rowell.
Maldonado is currently housed in the Pender County Jail under a secured $300,000 bond. The sheriff’s office is requesting members of the public to call Detective-Sergeant Steve Clinard at (910) 259-1437 if they have information regarding this investigation or regarding Maldonado.
Rowell said no additional information will be released at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
