Shooting at Best Western in Monkey Junction leaves one woman injured, one man in jail

A woman was shot in a hotel room at the Best Western in Monkey Junction. The man who shot her is now in custody.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s department has made an arrest in the shooting of a female victim who was shot in the chest.

“Shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday night a female came into the lobby area of the Best Western located in Monkey Junction suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. She was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where she underwent surgery and is in stable condition,” according to NHCSO spokesman Jerry Brewer.

Daniel Walker, 27, has been charged with the shooting.

“Detectives began their investigation and located Daniel Walker who was in the room with the victim at the time of the shooting. After a thorough investigation Detectives have charged Mr. Walker for shooting the victim,” Brewer said.

“Walker was taken to the New Hanover County Detention Facility where he received no bond. He will be in court this morning for his first appearance. Walker was taken to court before his photo could be taken, once he returns to the facility it will be taken and released. This is an ongoing investigation,” he concluded.
