In photos: Carolina Beach re-nourishment project underway

The beach is getting bigger on Pleasure Island as the renourishment project moves from Carolina Beach towards Kure Beach. Take a look at the progress, in photos.

CAROLINA BEACH — Erosion on Pleasure Island, especially after Hurricane Florence, has taken its toll on the beaches — which is why the beach nourishment project happening now came at the perfect time.

It’s no small feat bringing literal tons of sand up from below the waves and widening the beaches, in fact, it takes thousands of feet worth of piping, heavy equipment, and several weeks worth of work.

Local photography business Clouds View Photography captured the view from above showing the scale of the project.

The contractor completing the project was awarded the contract in November of 2018 — for more than $17 million.
