BURGAW –– Five months after Hurricane Florence brought destructive flooding to the Cape Fear Area, many are still working on repairing or rebuilding homes; in Pender County, officials are trying to make the process a little less painful.
On Monday’s Pender County Board of Commissioner meeting, members approved an extension of the county’s waiver for storm damage permit fees; the waiver was set to expire on Thursday — it will now be extended to March 18.
All completed applications received up until March 18 will be processed for no cost. Fees will be reinstated for applications received on or after March 19.
“We understand the challenges our homeowners are facing,” Board Chairm George Brown said in a release. “Recovery takes time, and we are waiving permitting fees for all storm-related work.”
Applications are available from the permitting offices in Burgaw, 805 S. Walker St. or in Hampstead at the Annex, 15060 US Hwy. 17.
