WILMINGTON — Hundreds of new living units are being planned for a new senior retirement community located off Masonboro Loop Road; recently, the state Department of Insurance approved the project, giving it the forward momentum needed to enter the next stage of development.
Trinity Landing will be constructed in two phases and will consist of both apartments and two-story villa units. A total of 21 different buildings are planned for both phases including common areas like clubhouses as well as living quarters.
“The project is organized and funded by Lutheran Services Carolinas, a nonprofit health and human services organization. Construction for the community is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2019, with the community opening in 2021,” Wallis Shamieh, on behalf of Trinity Landing, said.
According to New Hanover County’s Planning Department, the plans are currently under review.
Because of the DOI approval, the development can now begin taking deposits for planned units, according to Shamieh.
“The NCDOI approval means a few things: Seniors who have made a small deposit will be able to pick their specific unit (or residence). Once they have selected their unit, they make a 10-percent deposit to reserve the unit, the 10-percent deposits will fund the construction of the community,” Shamieh said.
This is good news for the more than 400 Wilmington-area residents who have already paid $100 in “priority” deposits.
“More than 450 Wilmington-area seniors have already made smaller, $100 ‘priority’ deposits to secure their places in line for the reservation phase, and now those reservations can begin. After priority depositors make their decisions, members of the general public will be able to make their 10 percent deposits and home selections, if availability remains,” according to a Trinity Landing press release.
