Update Wednesday 10 a.m. – Members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and Wilmington Police arrested the man wanted for assaulting the Wilmington Fire Chief last Tuesday evening. The suspect, 28-year-old Chadrick Tywain Conyers-Hall of Wilmington, was arrested around 6:30 pm last evening near the 1600 block of Moore Plaza. Conyers-Hall is charged with assault on a government employee.
It remains unclear why Conyers-Hall assaulted Chief Cecil “Buddy” Martinette; Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman Linda Rawley said police had no details on what led to the incident; Martinette has not yet responded to phone calls about the issue. WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is searching for Chadrick Tywain Conyers-Hall, a convicted felon who physically assaulted Wilmington Fire Chief Cecil Martinette.
Conyers-Hall, 27, allegedly assaulted Martinette on Tuesday, Dec. 11, around 6 p.m. Martinette had responded to a traffic crash near the intersection of 16th and Dock streets; Conyers-Hall was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved, which is how WPD was able to identify him.
According to the WPD, Martinette was seated in his vehicle when Conyers-Hall approached him and punched him twice in the face — it is not clear was incited Conyers-Hall to violence.
According to North Carolina Department of Public Safety records, Conyers-Hall has a long criminal history, with numerous convictions for burglary, breaking and entering, larceny, possession, and assault on a female; he recently finished an 11-month sentence in New Hanover County for felony possession and assaulting an officer. His probationary period ended just over a month ago.
Martinette was treated for minor injuries and released later that evening.
