WILMINGTON — It’s been months since Hurricane Florence passed, but some are still putting the pieces back together, including trying to refurnish homes that were flooded out, taking furniture with it.
The local non-profit Furniture Finders has been working for weeks to try and help with that. Founded by local development consultant Livian Jones, the organization has collected and distributed new and gently used furniture, mattresses, and bed frames.
After a donation drive earlier this month, Furniture Finders has distributed nearly all of the furniture it collected.
On Thursday, Furniture Finders received a fresh shipment of furniture from LaZBoy, which dropped off a literal truckload at the Habitat for Humanity warehouse on North College Road in Murrayville. The warehouse, formerly a Carolina BBQ, will serve as a staging area.
Families who need furniture are encouraged to contact Catholic Charities, a state-wide nonprofit that operates in downtown Wilmington out of the Harrelson Center, home to numerous non-profit organizations providing human services.
Catholic Charities can be contacted at 910-251-8130, and more information is available online here.
