Mother and infant are first two confirmed fatalities of Hurricane Florence in Wilmington

WILMINGTON — A mother and her infant have been the first two confirmed fatalities of Hurricane Florence in Wilmington after a tree fell on a home.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, “Wilmington Police and Fire Fighters are on the scene of a storm related incident. A large tree fell on a home on Mercer Avenue around 9:30 this morning. Officials believe the incident involved a family of three. One individual has been removed from the home and transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Two other individuals remain inside the home. Rescue officials are on scene trying to remove the tree from off the home.”

The father has been transported to New Hanover County Regional Hospital.
