Spraying usually takes place in the early evening when mosquitoes are active, according to the CDC fact sheet issued by the county – you can read more information on truck spraying here.
Residents are advised to head inside for approximately 30 minutes when they see a county truck spraying in their area.
The county notes that spraying may be canceled or rescheduled, often due to inclement weather, without notice.
The New Hanover County Health Department’s Vector Control division asks residents, “Please remember to check for standing water in your yards and dump water from all manmade containers. Toss, recycle, or store containers inside so that they can never hold water. Mosquitoes only need a tablespoon of water to complete their life cycle. You can find more information, including forms to complain about a mosquito problem in your area, or to opt out of truck-spraying, at the county’s mosquito information page. To sign up for spray notifications, register here: https://nhcgov.onthealert.com and check the box marked “health alert.”
