WILMINGTON—The North Carolina Department of Transportation is telling drivers who use the ramps at the Interstate 40 and I-140 interchange overnight that intermittent closures will continue for two more weeks.

According to NCDOT, “The closures are needed to repave all the ramps in the interchange. That will improve the safety of the ramps and make the ride considerably smoother.”

The nightly closures started at 8 p.m. Sunday and continue until 5 a.m. each day through May 17.

Detour signs will change for each individual closure. Transportation officials urge travelers to follow the message boards and use caution on the detour routes during the closures.
