‘Beats and a beer’ – A deeper look at this week’s stories (podcast)

Every week, Port City Daily Assistant Editor Ben Schachtman joins 98.3 The Penguin’s Beau Gunn to take a look at the top stories of the week. The half-hour “Beats and a Beer” segment airs Fridays at 4 p.m.

This week, we took a closer look at new efforts to revitalize the abandoned railbed that runs through the north side of downtown Wilmington. With private investment and federal money on the table, will it be enough to encourage the city to get on board?

We also touched on the numerous threats of violence in the area’s school, and how frustrated – and scared – parents have reached out to Port City Daily when the school system delayed providing information.

Lastly, we gave an overview of our series of article on food deserts in the area. What makes a food desert, and why can’t you just build a grocery store to fix it?
