Wilmington man arrested with 20 pounds of marijuana after anonymous tip

The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office estimates the value of the marijuana at nearly $100,000.

WILMINGTON — Acting on a tip, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a former Ohio felon with 20 pounds of marijuana.

Shane Justin Hardymon, a 38-year-old Wilmington resident, was the subject of a three-month investigation. After receiving information about Hardymon, the Vice Narcotics Division tracked Harmon’s behavior, eventually arresting him on Friday, Feb.9.

Hardymon was taken into custody at his residence at 1504 Nun Street, where detectives found 20 pounds of marijuana, 112 grams of cocaine and a .380 caliber handgun. As a felon, convicted on drug trafficking charges in Ohio, Hardymon is prohibited from owning a firearm.

The Sheriff’s Office estimates the approximate combined street value of the marijuana and cocaine at $100,000.

Hardymon is currently being held at the New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $1 million secured bond, he faces drug trafficking and possession of a firearm by a felon charges.

According to Shane Justin Hardymon’s Facebook page, he is “self employed.”
