SURF CITY — The winter weather that hit Southeastern N.C. last night is believed to have claimed the life of a Surf City man whose vehicle was found submerged in a canal early Thursday morning.
According to Surf City Police, “At 1:45 am, Surf City Police officers responded to a call of a submerged vehicle at the end of Broadway Street. Officers arrived on the scene to find a vehicle that was submerged in the water for some time.”
Rescuers managed to retrieve the vehicle from the canal, and found Dax Christopher Baker, 20, of Surf City inside and deceased.
“Detectives believe the inclement weather was a contributing factor in the crash. This crash is still under investigation,” Surf City Police Chief Ron Shanahan said.
