WILMINGTON — A three-story apartment complex called The Pearl has been proposed for a downtown location at Wooster Street and South 5th Street.

Plans were submitted to the City of Wilmington’s Technical Review Committee last month, and President and CEO of Plantation Building Corp. David Spetrino said the company is still working through design plans and getting approvals.

The Pearl would include some commercial space and the housing would be affordable, Spetrino said.

Spetrino said that the apartments would mainly consist of one bedrooms, with about 35 to 40 units total. The Pearl would offer, “Housing that is affordable, but includes a higher level of design, thoughtful finishes,” he said.

If approved and the company does move forward, he said construction can be expected to begin in spring of 2018, and completed by Spring of 2019. More detailed floor plans, renderings, and marketing details will likely be available early 2018.
