A red pickup truck pulled up to the Lions Cottage at Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina at Lake Waccamaw on a bright September day in 2017. Eagerly it was met by the young men who are residents at the Lions Cottage and Jose and Curtis, the resident councilors. Inside the truck was the fulfillment of a promise by the Wilmington Lions Club: a new Weber Genesis II four burner gas grill, gas bottle and grilling tools for the Lions Cottage.

Lions and family members from the Wilmington Club also brought all the fixings to prepare a hotdog and hamburger picnic feast. In quick order the young men ages 15-18, Lions, Lions family members, house parents and staff had the picnic tables and grill set up and ready.

Ray Cockrell, Vice-President of Boys and Girls Home of NC, welcomed the Lions and family members.

Food cooked on the new grill by the Lions was soon served under the pecan shade trees beside the Lions Cottage.

The Lions, family members and residents had a great opportunity to get to know one another. It was good to talk to the young men and house parents to learn of their life at Boys and Girls Home and their hopes and plans for the future.

The Wilmington Lions Club looks forward to more visits to the Lions Cottage and beautiful Lake Waccamaw.
