BURGAW – Hear the tales of Haunted Pender County, and maybe encounter a few ghosts of your own, when the ghosts from Pender’s past make their annual appearances this month.
A follow-up on last year’s sold out Ghost Walk, this year the Historic Burgaw Train Depot and the Pender County Courthouse Square will play temporary home to some of the county’s notorious spirits.
Director of Tourism Tammy Proctor said the county is home to many ghost stories.
“We have ghost tales from the Gullah Geechee culture, the Civil War, and many more,” Proctor said. “We are not repeating the same ghost stories from last year. We have wonderful, haunting tales in Pender County.”
The two-day event will be held rain or shine, on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13 and 14. Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per student. Children under age 5 are free with a paid adult.
This year’s Ghost Walk begins at the Historic Train Depot, where tour guides will introduce eight ghost stories, represented by actors. The grand finale will be in the county courthouse.
The Ghost Walk is the united effort of Moores Creek National Battlefield, the Historical Society of Topsail Island, Pender County Museum and Historical Society, Poplar Grove Plantation, Pender County Tourism, the Town of Burgaw, the NC Blueberry Festival, and the Pender Arts Council.
Tickets may be purchased from the tourism office at 106 E. Wilmington St. in Burgaw, or by telephone with a credit card at 910-259-1278.
Proceeds will be divided between the Historical Society of Topsail Island, Pender County Museum and the Pender Arts Council, according to a press release.
