WILMINGTON — The Inaugural “Port City Pride Block Party” will be held this weekend, featuring live music, food trucks and a host of vendors.
Aleeze Arthur, president for PFLAG of Wilmington, said, “We are excited to announce the Inaugural Port City Pride Block Party! Port City Pride is committed to bringing LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual) individuals and allies together to educate our city on issues important to our community, commemorate our heritage, celebrate our culture, and acknowledge our allies.”
Arthur said the ‘Block Party’ will be a free public event, open to all. She said the hoped the event will bring a wide range of people together, not just people with LGBTQIA identities. (PFLAG originally stood for Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, and remains committed to the broader community.)
Organizer Lorraine Barnes, also the Chairperson of Cape Fear Equality, said she hoped the event would “help heal the divisions within our community and communities all across North Carolina.”
The event will take place on Saturday, September 2, from 4 – 9 p.m. at Riverfront Park on North Water Street. Organizer Edwards Adams said community response had been overwhelming so far, and supplied this list of some of the vendors for Saturday’s event (this is not an exhaustive list).
