BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A California man is in Brunswick County custody after allegedly using skimmers to bilk county residents out of almost $35,000.

Gerry Agopian was extradited to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on June 29.

Agopian had several outstanding warrants that included, obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to commit obtaining property by false pretense, accessing government computers to defraud, and credit card theft with scanning device.

“Agopian conspired with others to travel down the east coast in December 2017, and install financial card readers on various ATMs and credit/debit card activated gas pumps. Once credit card information was gathered, Agopian and his co-conspirators manufactured counterfeit credit/debit cards, to obtain money and products,” according to a press release.

The group managed to get away with $34,945 in Brunswick County and more charges are expected. Los Angeles International Airport Police identified and took Agopian into custody last month while he attempted to board a flight.

Several other California residents also have outstanding warrants for the same charges.
