NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is warning county residents of a possible scam.

In a statement on the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority’s Facebook page, the authority warned of unconfirmed reports of people impersonating its employees, seeking access to the homes of residents.

According to the statement, “CFPUA employees would not need to enter a home to test water unless it is scheduled in advance with the customer. Further, all CFPUA employees carry company-issued photo identification they could show you.”

The CFPUA asks any customers concerned or unsure whether a person is legitimate employee to call 910-332-6625.
