WILMINGTON — If you’ve ever thought about taking the stage, this could be your chance to tread some of the most historic boards of all time.
Thalian Association Community Theatre is holding open auditions for its presentation of “Mr. Roberts.” The play is based on life aboard a naval vessel during World War II. And this production will be performed this July on the fantail of the USS North Carolina.

The play will be directed by the association’s Artistic Director, Chandler Davis, with assistance from Jim Bowling, who recently directed the troupe’s production of “Barefoot in the Park.”
“This is a great chance for local actors, as well as those familiar with the stage but new to the area, to be a part of Wilmington theater history,” Davis said. “It’s a great play about leadership, loyalty and service to Country, and staging it on the most decorated Battleship of World War II is kismet.”
Auditions will be held Monday, May 22, and Tuesday May 23, at 7 p.m. on the Battleship. The production runs July 4 through 23. There are parts for 19 men and one woman.
If being in front of an audience is not your thing, tickets for all shows are available online at www.etix.com.
Special ticket pricing for opening night, July 4, are $50 adults/$25 children and include a picnic beforehand and “a grand view” of Downtown Wilmington’s Fireworks display after the show, a press release from the theater states.
Regular show prices are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors, $15 for children and $15 for retired and active military.
Special group rates apply for parties of 12 or more. This special production is sponsored by MarineMax and AARP, and discounted ticket pricing is available for AARP members.
Thalian Association Community Theatre produces five major productions annually on the main stage at historic Thalian Hall, five productions at the Red Barn Studio and professionally manages the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center for the City of Wilmington.
The group’s youth theater program offers training and performance opportunities for children age 7 through high school seniors. In 2007, Thalian Association Community Theatre was designated North Carolina’s Official Community Theater by the state legislature. Find them online at thalian.org.
