Updated at 10:30 p.m. to include new free parking information from New Hanover County.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Wednesday marked the final day of Pro-Am play at Eagle Point Golf Club, this year’s host of the Wells Fargo PGA TOUR Championship. With the actual tourney beginning on Thursday, New Hanover County Wednesday put out a parking and traffic reminder for those who plan on heading to the event.
Downtown shuttles
Tournament spectators must take a shuttle to get to Eagle Point.
Complimentary shuttles will be provided at the transportation hub, located in downtown Wilmington, on the south side of Harnett Street between North Third and North Front Streets. Shuttle service is provided from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. Shuttles take approximately 25 minutes to get to Eagle Point.
Public parking is available in downtown parking decks, on-street metered parking spots, and surface lots. A full list of downtown parking locations, rates, and closest trolley stops, can be found online. A free trolley will run from these parking locations to the transportation hub, and a map of that route can be seen here.
To encourage more use of the downtown shuttles and help alleviate congestion in the Hampstead area, the following downtown parking decks will be free of charge for Wells Fargo Championship ticketholders beginning at 6 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, through Sunday, May 7.
- New Hanover County Library Parking Deck: 201 Chestnut Street (enter on 2nd Street)
- City of Wilmington 2nd Street Parking Deck: 114 N. 2nd Street
- City of Wilmington Market Street Deck: 115 Market Street
- Convention Center Parking Deck: 515 Nutt Street
Reserved parking spots in each of these decks should not be parked in.
“Wells Fargo Championship ticketholders are encouraged to take advantage of this free downtown parking and utilize the shuttles from the downtown transportation hub,” a release from the county states.
A free trolley will run from these parking locations to the transportation hub.
Passengers may be searched for prohibited items prior to boarding the shuttles. A full list of prohibited items can be found on the Wells Fargo Championship website (note: the Championship also has restrictions for filming and texting during play).
General spectator parking
Spectators can park in the Spot Festival lot in Hampstead (14121 US-17). Complimentary shuttle service from this area will run from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. through Sunday.
Handicapped Parking
Free parking and shuttle services for those with special requirements will be in a “reserved” area of Lowe’s Home Improvement, 191 Porters Neck Road. An application to the Wells Fargo Championship must be submitted to use the Handicapped Parking Lot. The application can be found at wellsfargochampionship.com/handicappedparking.
