WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Sharks have announced that the team has officially unveiled a new logo to commemorate 20 years of baseball in Wilmington.
The logo will be featured on sleeves of Sharks jerseys during the 2017 summer season, which begins on Tuesday, May 30, at Buck Hardee Field at Legion Sports Complex.
The 20th season mark was developed by Skye Design Studios, a brand identity and design firm with locations in the greater New York City area and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Coming off of one most productive years in team history, the Wilmington Sharks look to maintain momentum during their 28 home games throughout the course of the 2017 summer season.
The upcoming season includes six Thirsty Thursdays, as well as eight games on Friday or Saturday nights.
“We are excited to celebrate 20 unforgettable years in Wilmington,” said Pat Hutchins, Wilmington Sharks General Manager. “While the last 20 years have been great, we truly feel that the best is yet to come.”
The Sharks have six promotional giveaway nights and four, post-game fireworks shows planned in order to show appreciation for 20 years of support from the Wilmington community. A full schedule for promotional nights during 2017, as well as season ticket and mini-season ticket plans will be announced in an upcoming press release.
The Wilmington Sharks are one of the charter members of the Coastal Plain League. Providing affordable family entertainment in a minor league atmosphere, the Sharks have been consistently in the top 25 in attendance in all of summer-collegiate baseball.
Celebrating its 21st season in 2017, the Coastal Plain League features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 alums – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut thus far.
