NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an incident in the Monkey Junction area that left one man dead and two others injured.

According to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer, a shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Julia Drive in the Sycamore Grove neighborhood.

“Right now we know there were three people involved,” Brewer said. “It’s an ongoing investigation … We are still trying to get information.”

Deputies at the scene found one man deceased from a gunshot wound, Brewer said. Another man was severely beaten and suffered a concussion, while a third man suffered stab wounds. The two surviving men were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Details are limited in the ongoing investigation at this time, but Brewer said the residence in which the incident took place belongs to one of the injured males.

“No one is in custody right now,” Brewer said. “But we want to stress there is no danger to the community.”
