NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Detectives have identified 39-year-old Terry Dale Greenwood as the man killed in the Monkey Junction area following a shooting early Wednesday morning.
Aaron Christopher Stephens, 42, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Greenwood’s death, according to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.
Deputies responded to gunfire at home in the 600 block of Julia Drive in the Sycamore Grove neighborhood at about 1 a.m. Wednesday, Brewer said. There, they found Greenwood dead from a gunshot wound.
Deputies also found a second, 35-year-old victim suffering from multiple injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. According to Stephens’ arrest warrant, the 35-year-old man was injured with a knife or sharp cutting object.
“Detectives worked throughout the day conducting interviews and processing evidence,” Brewer said.
Upon their investigation, detectives determined Stephens was “also involved in the altercation,” Brewer said.
Stephens was arrested Wednesday afternoon, charged with the second-degree murder and other felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was booked at the New Hanover County jail without bond.
