2017 Orange Street ArtsFest puts out the call for artists

WILMINGTON – The call is on for artists for the 22nd Orange Street ArtsFest, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.

The event is the largest spring arts festival in downtown Wilmington, according to a press release from the Thalian Association Community Theatre. The theater launched the ArtsFest in 1995 to promote the arts in Wilmington and the Community Arts Center, which is located in the Historic USO Building.

The 2017 ArtsFest is Saturday, May 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, May 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Orange Street, next to the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center.

Interested artists should submit a color photo of original work in acrylic, oils, watercolor, sculpture, drawing, graphics, wearable arts, leather jewelry, clay, glass, fiber, metal work or mixed media. Photographically or commercially reproduced work is also acceptable in limited editions, signed and numbered by the artist, the release states.

Artists will be eligible for awards and $550 in prize money.

An early bird entry fee of $135 will be offered until Friday, April 28. For details about booth rental, deadlines and application process, visit wilmingtoncommunityarts.org or email Samantha Herrick, Community Arts Center Director at slherrick@thalian.org.
