The Carolina Panthers have fallen far this season. Last year’s NFC Champions are nearing the end of the 2016 season with a 5-8 record. But, despite the team’s record, the defense has shown several times this season that its pass rush is still potent. Late in the season, it leads the NFL in sacks.
That kind of play was evident Sunday when the Panthers forced five turnovers from San Diego Chargers’ Quarterback Philip Rivers, three interceptions and two lost fumbles. The defense also scored on a safety after tackling Rivers in the end zone with 10 minutes left in the game.
The Panthers won the game 28-16.
Longtime team radio play-by-play man Mick Mixon made his weekly call into the Port City Morning Show on affilaite station The Dude 93.7 FM in Wilmington. He joined host Linda Wylde and Port City Daily sports reporter Joe “Cats” Catenacci to discuss the game, the defense and the teams upcoming Monday Night Football Game against the Washington Redskins.
