BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A man charged with a sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl was arrested in Georgia last month, Boiling Spring Lakes Police Chief Brad Shirley announced Tuesday.

Jonathan Matthew Evans, 30, of Boiling Spring Road in Boiling Spring Lakes, has been charged with two counts each of first-degree rape and first-degree force sex offense, according to Shirley.

Detectives began an investigation into an alleged sexual assault on the 12-year-old. They identified Evans, who was reportedly living in the same home as the female victim, as the suspect, Shirley said.

U.S. Marshals later located and arrested Evans in Baxley, Georgia on Nov. 30.

According to arrest warrants, Evans is charged with raping and sexually assaulting the girl sometime between Aug. 9 and Nov. 6.

Evan was extradited and booked at the Brunswick County Detention Center on Monday. He was placed under a $750,000 secured bond.
