WILMINGTON — Farmin’ Brands returns to Wilmington, three years after closing their Carolina Farmin’ store on Market Street in 2013.

Ben Long, president of Farmin’ Brands, said, “admittedly, the process took longer than expected, but I believe our downtown base will be most pleased with the wait.” Long had said in late 2013 that he hoped for a spring 2014 opening. Despite numerous obstacles, Farmin’ Brands will finally open – or re-open – its doors this Friday.

Farmin’ Brands first announced the opening back in February of this year, and gave Port City Daily a sneak peak in June.

“There are so many people that deserve thanks for bringing this vision to life,” Long went on to say. “I am personally excited what the addition of Farmin’ on Front to the explosion of quality businesses and venues in downtown Wilmington will mean for the growth of our city’s historic district.”

The “Farmin’ on Front” store will provide the downtown with two things it currently lacks: a year-round outlet for locally sourced food – including meat, poultry, fish and produce – and everyday necessities,  like toothpaste, toilet paper and other household products. The 6,000 square-foot store will include a wine cellar, a full-service butcher, fresh local seafood, a walk-in “beer barn” and other artisanal offerings.

Senior Director of Brand Experience Randall Heath added that the shopping experience is only part of Farmin’ Brands’ ultimate goal. He pledged that Farmin’ Brands would support local farmers, livestock farmers, and fishing companies and to help foster relationships between area restaurants, local vendors and consumers in southeastern North Carolina.

Long told Port City Daily, “my individual sentiment about this opening is that we’ve been working on this for a long time, not just months, but years. We’ve worked incredibly hard to reshape our operation, to make it the best it can be, and it’s something special. We’re finally at the point where we can unveil what we’ve been working so diligently on. And it really is special.”

Farmin’ on Front opens at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18. It is located at 143 N. Front St.
