The PPD IRONMAN Triathlon North Carolina took place throughout the Wilmington area on Saturday.
Participants started the day with a 2.4 mile open water swim in the Intracoastal Waterway in Wrightsville Beach. That was followed by an approximately 50-mile bicycle course through New Hanover County and parts of Pender and Brunswick counties.
The triathletes, who came from all around the country and the world, finished with a marathon. The 26.2 mile course looped the Wilmington Convention Center to Greenfield Lake and back, running down Front Street in the heart of downtown Wilmington.
