Underwear is a top need for flood victims

PENDER COUNTY – Pender County officials on Wednesday praised the outpouring of support flood victims have received over the past week, but also noted one area of particular need, clean under garments.

“The Pender County Office of Emergency Management in cooperation with Gateway Community Church are requesting donations of packages of men’s, women’s, and children’s underwear,” a press release from the county states.

Gateway Community Church has been acting as a distribution center for the county, but right now it can no longer accept clothing or furniture, according to Pender County Emergency Manager Tom Collins.

However, “donations of new undergarments are greatly encouraged at this time,” the release states.

To volunteer at the distribution center, or to donate underwear, contact Gateway Community Church, 416 W. Bridger St., Burgaw.

Pender County Emergency Management will post updates on its Facebook page and on its website. Residents needing assistance can call the emergency management office at 910- 259-1210.
