Three schools were placed under lockdown Thursday as deputies searched for a teen they suspect had a pellet gun and wore a mask near the pool of the Kirkwood/Arrondale neighborhood.
Samuel Hobbs, 16, was arrested and charged with going armed to the terror of the public, according to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.
Hobbs was arrested after deputies were called to the Kirkwood/Arrondale neighborhood at about noon Thursday. Brewer said a man wearing a mask approached the neighborhood pool area with a pellet gun.
A pool maintenance worker with a concealed carry permit, pulled out his handgun and demanded Hobbs to stop, Brewer said. Hobbs then ran to a nearby wooded area.
Deputies arrived on scene and placed Edwin A. Anderson Elementary School, Charles P Murray Middle School and Eugene Ashley High School under a lockdown. According to the New Hanover County School District, the suspect was never on our campuses and the measure was taken as a safety precaution.
Hobbs was located at his home on Bradbury Court. The gun was found in the woods nearby. Hobbs was taken to the New Hanover County Detention Center where he received “a conditional release” to his mother, Brewer said.
