WILMINGTON — A Wilmington woman pleaded guilty to going against a court order and taking her two children from a bus stop in Pender County.
Nikcole Legeria Pratt, 32, pleaded guilty in Pender County Superior Court on Sept. 26 to two counts of felony custody violations, according to a notice from District Attorney Ben David.
On Aug. 31, Pratt went to the bus stop and fled with her two children to South Carolina. At the time, Pratt’s children were in the custody of the Department of Social Services. An Amber Alert were issued for both children.
Pratt and the children were ultimately located at a gas station in South Carolina. The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division worked with the Pender County Sheriff Office to find the children and arrest Pratt. Her children were taken back into social services custody.
“The cooperation of North and South Carolina law enforcement was essential in the safe return of the children and the disposition of this case,” David said.
Superior Court Judge Douglas Parsons sentenced Pratt 6-17 months in prison, which was suspended, and ordered her to instead serve 18 months of supervised probation.
