The National Weather Service office in Wilmington has issued a flash flood watch for parts of southeastern North Carolina due to Tropical Storm Julia.
The watch covers all of New Hanover and Brunswick counties and will be in effect from 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday evening.
“Julia is moving northward and will kind of stall. She’s going to stick around for a while,” said Dave Loewenthal, a forecaster with the NWS office in Wilmington. “We’re expecting two to four inches of rain, with isolated higher amounts possible. Coastal flooding could be an issue, especially during high tide.”
A high rip current risk will also be in effect for coastal New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties beginning Thursday morning. The strongest rip currents occur within two hours before or after low tide, which will occur around 1 p.m. Thursday.
The storm formed over land in Georgia last night and is currently sitting over parts of Georgia and South Carolina.
