WILMINGTON – It’s the time of the year when water-loving Wilmington dogs get to take over the Legion Stadium swimming pool to mark the end of summer.
The annual Pooch Plunge will be taking place from Sept. 6-11. Furry friends will get to cool down in the city-owned pool, which is run by the Wilmington Family YMCA, for a few hours on each of those days. The event has become the traditional way for Wilmington to close down its city pools season, which ends on Labor Day.
Admission is $5 per dog per day (cash only) at the pool, located at 2139 Carolina Beach Rd. in the Legion Stadium Complex. According to organizers, “common-sense dog park rules” apply, which include making sure each pooch is up to date on vaccines and not letting aggressive dogs into the event. Owners will be responsible for making sure their four-legged companions are on their best behavior at all times.
The dogs will be allowed into the water at the following times:
Tuesday, Sept. 6 to Friday, Sept. 9, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 11, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
