WILMINGTON – Wilmington police have released the name of a 57-year-old bicyclist who died after he was hit by three vehicles early Sunday morning.
Wilfred Leo Antone Jr., of Castle Hayne, was struck and killed while riding his bicycle in the area of North 23rd Street and Scientific Park Drive at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
Antone was first hit by one vehicle on North 23rd Street and then struck by two additional vehicles, Lindsay said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The bicyclist was traveling in a dark area of the road and wore dark clothing. No charges are have been filed in the wreck, Lindsay said.
