As college students get ready for another semester at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington, Mayfaire Town Center is hosting a special weekend for both freshmen and returning students.
According to Mayfaire Marketing Director Paige Somervell, about a third of the area’s 90 retail stores and restaurants will offer discounts on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
“It’s a mixture of ongoing specials and specials for just this weekend,” said Somervell, who said some stores will require a student identification card while others won’t.
Some of the businesses offering discounts to UNCW students include Banana Republic, Barnes and Noble, Bike Cycles, New Balance, Palm Garden, Roko Italian Cuisine and O2 Fitness Center. Others such as J. Crew, Julie’s Boutique and On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina are offering general student discounts.
While the event, which is in its third year, will occur over both days, there will be an extra perk on Sunday when a free shuttle will ferry shoppers from UNCW’s campus to Mayfaire and back.
“The shuttle will pick people up at the Teal Terminal at the UNCW Station on Burnley Loop and drop them off in front of the Mayfaire Regal 16 Cinemas,” Somervell said. “The university is providing the free shuttle as a benefit to their students.”
The first pickup at UNCW will be at 11:50 a.m. and will continue on a loop until the last on-campus pickup around 5 p.m. The times coincide with the shopping center’s Sunday operating hours.
