WILMINGTON – An employee at a local Burger King was forced inside the restaurant at gunpoint early Monday morning.
Wilmington detectives are in search for the suspect who approached the female employee as she was opening up the restaurant located at 1901 S. 16th St. just after 5 a.m., according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
The suspect came around the corner of the building, pushed the woman’s head against the window of the door and pointed a handgun at her, Lindsay said. The employee was forced inside the restaurant and ordered to open the safe.
When the employee couldn’t open the safe, the suspect took cash out of the register and ran out of the business. A second employee who had just arrived to work saw the suspect run toward nearby woods, Lindsay said.
