WILMINGTON – The Wilmington Fire Department is advising drivers to seek alternate routes if they plan on driving in the area of the 200 block of North 17th Street this afternoon. A gas leak has caused the road to be shut down to traffic.
Public Information Officer David Hines said in an email that fire crews and Piedmont Gas was on the scene at around 2 p.m. The Wilmington Police Department is handling traffic detours, Hines said.
17th Street is closed from Market Street to Princess Place Drive. Princess Place Drive is closed from 21st Street to 16th Street.
As of 2 p.m., the leak had been stopped, but traffic was still being detoured. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.
