College baseball: Diamond Hawks land three on All-American list

UNCW sophomore catcher/designated hitter  Nick Feight and senior right-hander Ryan Foster were named Louisville Slugger All-American’s after a pair of standout seasons for the Seahawks, while freshman Alex Royalty was named to the All-American All-Freshman Team.

The trio became the eighth, ninth and tenth UNCW ballplayers to earn All-America honors during UNCW’s NCAA Division I era.

Feight tied UNCW school records with 21 home runs and 24 doubles. He set new standards with 175 total bases, a .726 slugging percentage and a nation-leading 91 runs batted in.

Foster, who was tied for the national lead with 12 wins, was the CAA Co-Pitcher of the Year after posting a 12-1 record and fashioning a 2.41 earned run average.

Royalty ranked third in the conference in victories, posting an 8-2 mark with a 4.71 ERA. He tied a UNCW freshman record by making 15 starts and fanned 57 over 72.2 innings. The Raleigh, N.C., native was also a Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie selection.

The Seahawks  concluded their 2016 campaign with a 41-19 record. UNCW finished with 41 wins for the second straight season, appearing in a NCAA regional final for the fifth time in program history.
