The body found in the Castle Hayne area on Tuesday has been identified as that of a man who disappeared from the Wilmington area in early March.
Murray Michael Henderson, 62, was last seen March 10 at his residence, the Sherwood Manor Rest Home in the 1600 block of Robin Hood Road in Wilmington, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. The N.C. Department of Public Safety issued a Silver Alert for Henderson the following week.
Henderson needed the assistance of a rolling walker and was believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment, which is the main consideration for the state Department of Public Safety to issue a Silver Alert. The alert was cancelled hours after the body of a white man was found in a wooded area in Castle Hayne on Tuesday.
On Saturday, authorities confirmed that body was identified as Henderson, Lindsay said. A trucker found Henderson’s body in a wooded area in the 5200 block of North College Road, just before the roundabout in Castle Hayne around noon Tuesday.
Since the body is now confirmed to be Henderson, Lindsay said the the police department’s missing person investigation has been closed. An autopsy was performed on Henderson’s body this week, Lindsay said, adding that he had appeared to have died from “natural causes.”
