Although cameras didn’t roll in Wilmington as planned Tuesday, the cast and crew of a locally filmed television series, are getting a little action-packed practice in this week just over the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge.
According to Tammy Skinner, film liaison for the City of Wilmington, the History channel drama “Six,” about a US Navy SEALs team, will set up at the USS NC Battleship site today and Thursday, as well as Monday, March 28 to rehearse choreographed fight scenes. Since those scenes involve prop gunfire, residents and visitors to the downtown waterfront could hear some noise wafting across the river.
In an e-mail sent earlier this week, Skinner said 911 dispatch and the U.S. Coast Guard have already been notified.
The start of rehearsals comes a day after a “Six” shoot involving guns was canceled. Filming was originally set to get underway on private property behind International Paper for a scene about an “attack on a school” that involved 12 cast members, 40 extras, as well as a special effects crew to oversee simulated gunfire and 12 semi-automatic weapons on set.
Some popping and crackling sounds coming from the Battleship could be audible around dusk over the next couple of days. Rehearsals are set to run from 6 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow and will resume from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Filming for “Six” began on March 14, a week after the start of shooting for TNT’s “Good Behavior.” “Six” stars “True Blood” and “Magic Mike” actor Joe Manganiello as Rip Taggart, a hardened former squad leader of SEAL Team 6 who, at the show’s start, is working to protect a small African village from Boko Haram.
Both shows have been staging scenes in various locations around town, including Cape Fear Community College’s Union Station, Third Street bed and breakfast Graystone Inn and a downtown-area church.
