Grammy-nominated performer and bestselling writer Jewel is coming to the local stage.
Cape Fear Community College’s Humanities and Fine Arts Center announced Tuesday that the singer/songwriter will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18.
Jewel, who came onto the music scene in 1995 with her debut album, “Pieces of You,” has gone on to record 12 studio albums and pen several books of musings and poetry.
She comes to Wilmington on her intimate spring tour, “Picking Up the Pieces,” where she will play hits spanning her two-decade career, as well as share stories from her memoir “Never Broken–Songs Are Only Half the Story” at various spots along the south. The tour kicks off Friday, March 4 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
“It’s going to be really fun to get back out on the road,” Jewel said. “I’m excited to share the stories behind some of my favorite and most personal songs in such an intimate setting.”
The tour, Jewel’s first since 2013, comes on the tails of a successful 2015, when the singer released her first memoir and her latest album within days of each other. The album has been described as “remarkably raw” and “bracingly honest” by Entertainment Weekly, and “Never Broken–Songs Are Only Half the Story” earned a spot on the New York Times Bestsellers list.
Jewel has sold over 27 million albums to date, including 12 million copies of her first hit, “Who Will Save Your Soul.”
Tickets for the Wilmington show, featuring opening act JD & The Straight Shot, fronted by New York Knicks owner Jim Dolan, will go on sale at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25 and will be available on CFCC’s performing arts center’s website or by calling (910) 362-7999.
