Portion of Brittain Drive closed until end of year

A part of Brittain Drive, located between Oleander Drive and Greenville Loop Road in Wilmington, has been closed until the end of the year for infrastructure work, according to the city.

The street is shut down between Dogwood Lane and Shuney Street. Crews are replacing a drainage culvert underneath the road. Homes are still accessible, but the street is closed to through motorists.

The infrastructure work is part of a two-phase, $5.4 million project in the Wisteria Lane/Clearbrook area that began in August. It will help reduce flooding, aid the city’s ability to do long-term maintenance on stormwater systems and improve the quality of water entering Hewlett’s Creek as runoff.

Earlier this year, a culvert was installed under nearby Patricia Drive. Culverts will also be installed under Clearbrook Drive and Shuney Street as part of the first phase of the project, which is expected to be finished next summer.

The Wisteria Lane/Clearbrook project is one of many crews are working on to help improve the city’s flooding and stormwater issues.
