Two Wilmington residents who faced multiple drug charges pleaded guilty this week in New Hanover County Superior Court.
Nakesha Polletta McCray, 38, pleaded guilty Aug. 17 to charges of trafficking between 28 to 200 grams of cocaine, trafficking 28 to 200 grams of cocaine by transportation, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and felony speeding to elude arrest, according to a news release from District Attorney Ben David.
Officers found a book bag 30 feet from the car, which contained 142 grams of cocaine, digital scales and McCray’s identification card. She was later arrested and posted bond, David said. On June 1, detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office searched her home on Swan Street and found 31 grams of cocaine and $3,500 inside the residence.
Superior Court Judge W. Allen Cobb Jr. sentenced McCray to 35-51 months in the N.C. Department of Corrections and ordered her to pay a $50,000 fine.
Man pleads guilty to cocaine, heroin possession
Davey Cleon Spencer, 36, pleaded guilty Aug. 18 to charges of selling heroin, selling cocaine, three counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and being a habitual felon, according to David.
Drug agents with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s office, with assistance from a cooperating witness, purchased 10 bags of heroin from Spencer at the Red Roof Inn on Market Street in January 2013. Detectives used a different witness to purchase heroin and cocaine from Spencer at the Budgetel motel on Market Street in March 2014.
On Aug. 4, 2014, deputies encountered Spencer and two females in a car, in what was reported as a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of North College Road, David said. When deputies searched the vehicle, they found a coat with 45 bags of heroin.
Superior Court Judge Jay Hockenberry sentenced Spencer to 87-117 months in the N.C. Department of Corrections.
“This aggressive prosecution is just another example of our constant effort to vigorously punish drug dealers who use hotels and motels as their base of operation,” Assistant District Attorney Timothy Severo said.
