A portion of River Road will be closed beginning Monday so that crews can remove an old railroad crossing and construct a new one for Vertex Rail, a rail car facility that officials say will bring an estimated 1,300 jobs to the area.
The road closure–between Shipyard Boulevard and Sunnydale Drive–will begin at 8 a.m. Monday and continue through Aug. 19, according to a notice from the City of Wilmington.
The city entered into an agreement in March with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (N.C. DOT) to provide additional access for Vertex Rail, which has taken over the industrial plant that once produced Terex cranes, by extending Raleigh Street to River Road.
