New Hanover County’s top principal is moving to an administrative position in a neighboring school district.

Williston Middle School’s Dr. Jerry Oates–current New Hanover County Principal of the Year–was named earlier this week as the executive director of human resources for Brunswick County Schools. The board of education approved the hire at its July 7 meeting.

A Brunswick County resident, Oates has 15 years experience as a school administrator, most recently at Williston Middle.

“I am looking forward to working with the dedicated and hardworking employees of Brunswick County Schools as we attract and retain the best educators to serve our students. It will be a pleasure to serve the community in which I live,” Oates said.

He replaces Mark Pasier, who resigned two months ago to take a position as assistant superintendent in Hanover, Virginia.

“We are really looking forward to the contributions Dr. Oates will bring as a member of our senior staff,” Superintendent Les Tubb said. “I am confident his background and experiences as a school-based administrator have prepared him to lead our human resources division. He is already a member of the Brunswick County community, and now we welcome Dr. Oates to the Brunswick County Schools family.”
