Wilmington
A 21-year-old woman was shot in the foot during an armed robbery reported Thursday at Sixth and Campbell streets.
Police responded to the 600 block of Campbell Street at 2:30 a.m., when it was reported a woman had been shot, according to Wilmington Police Department Cpl. Leslie Irving.
Two women—ages 21 and 22—said they were in the area visiting a friend when they were approached by a black man who asked if they wanted to buy drugs. When the women refused, the man reportedly got into the back seat of their vehicle and pointed a silver handgun at the women.
The man stole the women’s purses and got out of the vehicle. As the suspect walked away from the vehicle, he fired three shots, one of which struck the 21-year-old woman in the left foot, Irving said. The suspect ran away from the area headed north.
The victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
The suspect is described as a black male who is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and in his mid-20s. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt with white writing, a blue toboggan and blue jeans.
