20th Century Fox has released an official trailer for the locally filmed “The Longest Ride,” which hits theaters this spring.
A film adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel, the movie was shot in locations in Wilmington and Winston-Salem earlier this year. Some of those locations are featured in the trailer, which runs two and a half minutes and indicates an April 10 release.
Starring Scott Eastwood—son of legendary filmmaker Clint Eastwood—and Britt Robertson, known to Wilmington for her role on the locally filmed series “Under the Dome,” “The Longest Ride” tells the story of a couple—a bull rider and a college student—whose lives converge with a 91-year-old man (played by Alan Alda) who hears his late wife speaking to him in the wake of a car crash.
Filming started in mid-June and included such locations as the Temple of Israel in downtown Wilmington and the Cameron Art Museum. The film is one of many Sparks adaptations that have filmed in the Wilmington area, including “A Walk to Remember,” “Nights in Rodanthe,” “Safe Haven” and this year’s “The Choice,” which recently wrapped.
The New Bern-based author is a producer on the film, reuniting with production team Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, who produced “Safe Haven” and whose Temple Hill Entertainment credits include “The Twilight Saga” films and another Sparks adaptation, “Dear John.”
